Single acting actuators are also called spring return actuators since they have springs and are one-sided compressed air actuators. They operate by applying compressed air to one side only. In the event of an air supply cutoff, the actuator is pushed back into its initial position by a spring. To open and close, double-acting actuators need two sided airflow.
